As we wave our final goodbyes to 2016, we’re thankful for all the technological advances made this year – but we’re still terribly miffed that science hasn’t granted us the ability to physically be in multiple places at once.
You see, this is a problem because it means we can only choose one party to go to for New Year’s Eve 2016!
Last week, we wrote about the grand NYE celebrations in Valletta, which is still a fantastic option. For anyone looking for alternative hangouts for the night, though, here’s a list of candidates that could capture your attention. We can’t say we’ve covered every single option (a list that long is one you probably wouldn’t finish reading until 2017), but we have tried to cover a range of options to suit the tastes of as many people as we could!
ALT NYE 2016
You can’t talk about NYE alternatives without mentioning 2016’s biggest alternative scene party! Taking place at The Warehouse Club in Zurrieq, the party is the result of four respected event organisers coming together: Trackage Scheme, Sick of Ants, No Sweat Productions & Hedon Crew.
The entertainment will be provided by an eclectic mix of live bands and DJs. The list of bands includes Kill the Action, Beesqueeze, Lucy’s Last, and Bila. If you’re unaware of these bands, they all fall into some category of alternative rock and punk, so you know it’s going to be a pretty loud and raunchy experience!

MokSHA New Year’s Eve – NYE by Duncan F
If you’re more invested in the dancefloor than live music, MokSHA is probably for you. Hosted by one of Malta’s top DJs, Duncan F, this event features him alongside a vast array of his peers. Alex Thomson, Twain, Julian Drury, and Tiffany are just a few of the DJs who will be spinning pounding electronic tunes all night.
MokSHA is taking place at Fortizza in Sliema and offers different packages to people with different budgets. Tickets start at €30 and get you access to everywhere in the venue and a free drink. You can also opt for a €50 ticket, which includes a 75cl bottle of alcohol, while the most luxurious ticket costs €100 and gets you a premium bottle of alcohol. Tickets can be bought from here.
New Year’s Eve 2017 with Winter Moods
Winter Moods is one of Malta’s most esteemed rock bands. Having been around for over 30 years, the band has retained is relevance even in recent years and is enjoyed by people of all ages. The band’s concerts fill venues without fail – so imagine how wonderful the atmosphere will be during Winter Mood’s appearance at the Xara Lodge this NYE!

NYE at Hugo’s Terrace
Hugo’s Terrace is quite well known for hosting quality entertainment regularly, and this NYE will be no different. With an initial Early Bird special of €10, this party might be a bit more affordable than other options, but its line up proves to be as promising as the rest. With Leo Max + Funkin Drew, Alessia De Martino, and The Busker on bill, you’re bound to have a rousing time.
You can buy the ticket beforehand from Hugo’s Terrace itself, and can even book VIP areas if you so wish.
With a standard ticket costing €100 and a VIP ticket €150, this is an event for people looking for some proper class and exclusivity. Taking place at the InterContinental Area, Versatile Brass’ impeccable brand of what the group calls ‘DJ Brass fusion’ will be accompanied by a number of guests, including Glen Vella, Martina Borg, Janville, Christian Arding, Gianni Zammit, and the iconic Ira Losco.
