With the summer so close you could almost feel the cool, soft sand between your un-tanned toes, you can expect an endless stream of events to fill your calendar and keep you pleasantly busy throughout the season. But who wants to wait that long? Not us! Here are 9 of our favourite picks to get you started this May.
1 | Ziggy Day Event at Cafe Del Mar (6th May)
Cafe’ Del Mar is a favourite spot for anyone looking to enjoy a fiery Maltese sunset with an ice-cold cocktail in hand. This highly-anticipated event is the perfect opportunity to socialise, chill out, and dance your way into the night with popular local DJs, Nikki VP, Pillu, Sponk, and Ziggy.
2 | For your Ears Only at Splendid, Strait Street (4th May)
In recent years, Strait Street in Valletta has blossomed into a vibrant, bustling bunch of charming cocktail bars and fantastic restaurants. For Your Ears Only is a series of concerts organised by The Pirates of Filfla, whose main goal is to present the public with new, experimental music and create the right space for musicians, composers, and the audience can meet and mingle.
3 | Aperitivo Fridays at Cafe’ Juliani (Weekly until 26th May)
Nothing says ‘weekend’ like a refreshing aperitivo (or three) – so why not get things started at Cafe’ Juliani right in the heart of Malta’s entertainment hotspot, St. Julians? The event takes place every week, and offers free nibbles and great live entertainment – a fantastic way to kick back and relax before the rest of your night unfolds!
4 | Beach Yoga in aid of Reaching Cambodia (7th May)
Whether you’re an experienced yogi or a complete beginner, beach yoga isn’t just fun and relaxing, but a great way to get some exercise in too. The event is going to be held at stunning Golden Bay, but the best part about this? It’s being organised in aid of a great cause – Reaching Cambodia!
5 | Annual Book Sale at Villa Madama (10th – 28th May)
Bookworms, take note! This 18-day-long event promises to be a lovely day out, with the ideal mix of books from any genre, lush gardens, and cute cafeterias for you to enjoy.
6 | Reaching Cambodia Cake Sale (13th May)
What’s this? Cake? For a good cause? Don’t mind if we do. What better reason could there be to bend your diet rules? Besides, it seems only fair to balance out the yoga with a spot of delicious self-indulgence.
7 | Malta World Music Festival at Fort St. Elmo (19th & 20th May)
Maltesers love music, so make sure you hit the Malta World Music Festival to get a taste of thr Mediterranean and music from all over the world. This is the festival’s very first edition, and it certainly looks like it’ll be the first of many.
8 | Malta Fashion Week (22nd – 27th May)
One of the most eagerly-anticipated fashion events of the year, Malta Fashion Week is the place be seen (in your most stylish of outfits, of course) if you want to get an in-depth look at what’s happening in the world of Maltese fashion.
9 | Mozart at Midnight (27th May)
If you love classical music then this enchanting event is perfect for you. Organised by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Mozart at Midnight will be performed in the stunning Grand Master’s Palace in our proud capital, Valletta, and is being held in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.
