We had loads of fun writing our previous article on Maltese celebrities, and that’s one of the reasons why we had to write another one (and will possibly write more in the future). The other reason is that our last article only scratched the surface of Maltese people who have a made an impressive name for themselves abroad!

This article is going to be more rooted in the music industry, so we’re going to tell you about people of various talents, from singing to composing.

Destiny Chukunyere

Destiny is still in her early teenage years, but she’s quickly becoming one of Malta’s biggest stars. Destiny claimed a lot of initial fame when she won the 2015 edition of the Junior Eurovision, but prior to that she had also won the Asterisks Music Festival and SanRemo Junior.

Destiny is currently the talk of the town for singing Aretha Franklin’s ‘Think’ and passing the audition stage at Britain’s Got Talent this year, receiving a staggering 4 yeses and resounding praise from the judges!

Kevin Borg

Speaking of killing it in international competitions, Kevin Borg is famous for winning the Swedish competition Idol in 2008. Apart from having a great voice, Borg rose to fame for being the first winner to be born outside of Sweden.

Joseph Vella

Joseph Vella is one of Malta’s leading and innovative composers, with a substantial international following. He is known for his unique sound, mostly inspired by the neo-classical movement but with other influences seeping in, including Mediterranean sounds. Vella is known for his ability to experiment while retaining a profound sense of musicality.

Nicky Bomba

Maltese born, Australian bred multi-instrumentalist Nicky Bomba has received wide acclaim for his various musical projects including Bomba and the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, in which he is the bandleader. For many years, Bomba was also the drummer for the famous John Butler.

Sandro Zerafa

Sandro Zerafa is the only musician on this list that specialises in jazz. The Maltese guitarist studied and made his name in France, though he has also toured on an international level. His performances and albums are certainly worth checking out if you are a jazz aficionado at all, as he certainly holds in own in the international scene.
