The yearly tradition dictates that one should work towards a summer body during winter, yet work on a winter body in summer. Insulation is a must, and here at Shortlets Malta, we strive to help you in any way we possibly can (because we care, we really do). So here are the top 5 desserts to help you achieve that extra junk in the trunk, and where to find them:

Milshakes at JAR, The Point, or The Plaza, Sliema:

This milkshake is NOT for the faint hearted – it is rich, chocolatey, thick and oh so full of flavour. And speaking of flavours… what a variety! Featuring: childhood favourites like Cadbury and Kinder, aptly-named Caramel Bombs and Oreo shakes, and even The Healthy One for those of us who don’t want to induce a personal guilt-trip post-shake…there’s literally something for everyone. Feeling feisty? Try out their new Pina Colada shake for some extra buzz in your shake.

Pancakes at Shoreditch Bar and Kitchen, Paceville:

WARNING: once you read this particular post, you can never go back to enjoying a simple pancake. Ever. Not only has the team at Shoreditch Bar and Kitchen perfected the affordable gourmet burger, but they’ve also tempted us further into their homemade “sin of all sins” ; the ultra-famous, ultra-sought after Shoreditch Pancake Stack. Take your pick: are you a white chocolate lover? Try the new kitkat white pancake! Or maybe, you’re more of a classic milk chocolate kind of person…the Lindt Lindor pancake is just your thing! Seeing red? Go for the Red Velvet Pancake! The choice is honestly endless. Shortlets Malta suggests: bring friends so you can go halfsies on every pancake and try them all!

Doughnuts at Crust, St Julians:

This new deli bakery prides itself on the fact that everything they serve is baked fresh, daily. The ambience is modern, unique and stylish, the savouries are to die for, but the real star of the entire enterprise is The Doughnut. With fillings such as pistachio, strawberry, cherry and cranberry, Nutella, coconut and kinder Bueno, it is hard to resist these babies. Try one, or try them all (in one sitting) and your taste buds will thank you forever.

French Toast at Manouche, Craft Bakery and Bistro, St Julians:

This new and very aesthetically appealing bakery is perfect for an afternoon treat after a day by the beach. Apart from a delicious breakfast menu, Manouche boasts of the best French Toast on the island, and no one dares contest it! Their Pain Perdu (a.k.a French Toast) is made with a unique, organic wheat brioche, brûlée banana, roasted peanut butter, Canadian maple syrup & vanilla creme fraiche; and it is a treat for the stomach, as well for the eyes.

Sticky Toffee Pudding, Fat Louie’s, Paceville:

A timeless, classic masterpiece: Fat Louie’s is known for its successful experimentation with regards to different variations of cuisine, yet the team hit a soft spot when adding the sticky toffee pudding to the list of desserts. Its moist, soft texture paired with a sticky pool of toffee, accompanied with soft-serve ice cream: a true symphony of warm and cold paired with rich, enticing, yet comforting flavour. This is the dessert to have after any of their main dishes.
