August in Malta is one of the busiest and bustling months of the year – festas abound, outdoor events take place every weekend – there is always something to do in Malta during this sweltering summer month. The most prominent of all festas is undoubtedly the festa of the Assumption of Our Lady, or as it is most known among the Maltese, Santa Marija. The 15th of August is in fact a public holiday here in Malta, and the feast is celebrated in 9 different towns across Malta and Gozo. Want to know where to head this August? Keep on reading!

15th August Santa Marija

The festa of Santa Marija is celebrated in Mqabba, Qrendi, Mosta, Gudja, Attard, Ghaxaq, Birkirkara, Zebbug and Victoria, Gozo. The Maltese have an ancient tradition called the ‘Seba’ Santa Marijiet’, where a pilgrimage of the 7 most prominent Santa Marija festa celebrations was done on the feast day. Robin Schultz at Cafe Del Mar – 5th August, Café del Mar, Qawra

World-renowned DJ Robin Schiltz will be manning the decks this 5th August at popular seaside venue Cafe del Mar, ensuring solid tunes and groovy beats throughout the night. Delicata Wine Festival – from the 9th to the 12th August, Upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta

Ministry of Sound Tours Malta present Darude – 11th August, Club Phoenix, Gianpula Village

Another event for dance music lovers! Established DJ Darude will be hitting the island’s shores on the 11th of August, delivering good tunes and a fantastic vibe at Club Phoenix in Gianpula Village. Accompanied by some of the most well-loved DJs in the local scene, this Finnish DJ is sure to bring the house down.

Summer Daze Malta – 14th and 15th August, Ta’ Qali National Park & Café del Mar

August brings us a ton of open-air events, and Summer Daze Malta is a prime example! Set over two days in two outdoor venues, the festival will bring international artists and DJs together for a truly unforgettable two day music-fest. Day One sees international superstar Rita Ora perform live at Ta’ Qali National Park, while Day Two presents Grammy-award winning DJ Roger Sanchez to the decks at Café del Mar – ensuring a massive event that you cannot miss!

Glitch Festival – 14th to the 16th August, Gianpula Fields

After a highly successful two-years, Glitch Festival is back with a bang! Having moved from September to the more-accessible August dates, this year’s festival is headlined by a whole crew of world-renowned techno, electro and house DJs: Nina Kraviz, Jeff Mills, Amelie Lens, Rodhad, Dax J and Dopplereffekt to name but a few. The festival is spread over a two-day rave at Gianpula Fields, as well as a boat-party on the 16th August – to end the Festival in truly Maltese fashion. This is not an event to be missed!

Fireworks Spectacular 2018 – 14th August, Mqabba

August is not just about clubbing, it’s about bombastic firework shows too! Mqabba is one of the best-known localities for its spectacular and intricate fireworks, and the pyrotechnic company have won many prestigious awards for their firework displays. Festa season is always the best time to witness some truly artistic and colourful displays of fireworks, with a one and a half hour pyrotechnic show which will include 10,000 shots synchronised to music. If you’re in Malta during this season, this is the fireworks show to watch!

Edvin Morton: Stradivarius Concert Show – 25th August, Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta

If a more classical type of music is what you’re after, then you certainly cannot miss Emmy-award winning Edvin Morton’s Stradivarius Concert show. The violin mastermind is back to enthral the crowds at Valletta after the huge success of the Rock Symphony of 2017.
