For an island that enjoys around 3,000 hours of sunshine every year, nailing the awkward mezzu temp (that’s Maltese for “in-between seasons”) can be quite tricky. Should I wear jackets or T-shirts? Shorts, or long jeans? Boots or sandals? Don’t fret- we’ve got the ultimate guide to planning your perfect Malta holiday this season!
Hot tip #1- Bring your T-shirts along with you
Except for the moodiest winter if you are planning your holiday between August, till the end of November. Whilst the sun is still a prominent everyday figure, it can get quite unexpectedly cloudy and windy. However, any Malteser will tell you that they don’t retire their t-shirts until at least the end of November! The trick is to layer- bring your summer clothes, but also pack the occasional cardigan with you, in order to be fully prepared for that ever-changing weather.
Hot tip #2- Pack a waterproof jacket
I know, I know I just told you to pack your t-shirts. I am fully aware of that, but this will all make sense in a bit. Allow me to explain- Autumn is also a very volatile season for storms and sudden downpours. Packing a lightweight, waterproof jacket will save your day in these situations- you won’t have to compromise your day out! Make sure it is lightweight though- the temperatures are still rather warm till November.
Hot tip #3- Plan some indoor activities
I already mentioned the storms/ sudden downpours- it’s a real thing. You plan a day out, to visit all the most beautiful beaches in Malta, you look outside and, uh, that well-known feeling of disappointment creeps up. The solution- have a plan B! In the mood for some hard-core shopping? Visit The Point in Sliema! Need a good spa day? Myoka spas are here to get rid of all your boohoos. In the mood for something more active? Go bowling! There are so many endless possibilities for some fun, indoor activities in Malta- guaranteed to be the highlight of your holiday!
Hot tip #4- Rent a wallet-friendly car
Ditch the bus- you don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. The endless waiting, the packed bus stops, the inconvenient routes- so unnecessary. Check out GoTo car-sharing- available both in Malta and Gozo. The premise is smart- there are 195 of these cars available in both islands; all you need to do is sign up for the service, and find your nearest GoTo car! Not only is it convenient, but it’s also cost-efficient- all their rates include insurance, battery-charging or fuel and any parking costs (parking spaces are reserved for these cars around the island)!
Hot tip #5- Don’t give up on Beach Days
So I told you to pack cardigans, I told you to pack a light jacket…and now I am telling you to pack your swimming stuff, and I have never been more serious in my life. There are rainy days, there are storms… but there’s also the SUN! And lots of it, too! Who says that tans are only for summer? Go ahead and enjoy the beautiful beaches that Malta has to offer, any season!
