Towers were built by the Knights of Malta and date back to the 17th century. Different features distinguish towers built by different Grand Masters. Location was strategically chosen so that each tower could view neighbouring towers. A firing signal was given from one tower to the next when enemies approached quickly alerting the whole Island.
